Abstract:Wistar’s rats of experimental group were treated with a permanent bilateral occlusion of both common carotid arteries (2-VO)for establishing vascular dementia model. These models were checked by Morris maze and the ultrastructure of the hippocampal neurons with the light, middle and severe degrees of vascular dementia was observed by electron microscope compared with control group. The results showed that the changes of the ultrastructure were found among the hippocampal neurons of vascular dementia model. The character is that chromatin condensed and clumped in apoptotic nuclei and the nuclear membrane could be seen to break into apoptotic body. These results showed that the apoptosis of the hipoocampal neurons in the vascular dementia had intimate relationship with serious degree of the dementia.
