Abstract:The relationship of development, number and distribution of two types of mast cells with development of human fetal stomach fundus was investigated by light microscopy in 40 cases of human fetal stomach samples. And the influence of FA fixation on mast cell staining was also researched. The results indicated that the first appearance of CTMC in the submucosa of the fetal stomach could be traced to the stage of 13-16W after fertilization, and they were mainly distributed around the small blood vessels in the submucosa. Appearance of MMC was in 17W after fertilization and predominated in the lamina propria close to the muscularis mucosae and the number was increased with the development of the fundie gland and muscularis mucosae. No difference was found in the effects of formaldehyde fixation on both types of mast cells. The significance of mast cells in the development of human fetal stomach was discussed.
