Abstract:In order to study the effect of glucose and arginine on pancreatic B-cells mass, newborn rats were treated with glucose and arginine(G+A) for 6 days and were killed on the tenth and twentieth day after birth. The B-cells were sbowed by immunohischemistry (PAP method). The diameter of B-cells mass, quantified by the Medical Image Processing system, showed a definite increase in the twentieth day’s G+A treated rats, The B-cells mass of control rat, however, showed a decrease. In addition, the diameter of islet in two group rat had decrease, but that of control animals was significantly lower than that of G+A treated group. Thus, with the stimulation of g+A, the neonatal B-cells mass and non-B-cells mass have a greater capacity to growth.
