Abstract:Male Wistar rats of five months old were gelded, and a part of them were given Dong Fang Shen dan(DFSD) solution every day through mouth for six weeks. The rcsults were as fotlows : the prostates, seminal vesicles, Tyson’s glands and levator ani muscles of the gelded rats in the blank control group were obviously atrophic. The anti-atrophy effect of testosteron proionate was the strongest, and that of DFSD was weaker. The weight indexes of sexual subsidiary glands were significant greater than that of blank group. The activities of SDHase in the epithelia of prostates in the group treated with DFSD were stronger than that of the blank group. The above results shows that DFSD has testosteron-like effect, and it may maintain the development of sexual subsidiary glands and keep these organs exerting their normal functions when gelded.
